HARLEM OF THE WEST

Woodburned Mural  |  7' X 9'

This mural illustrates the rhythm of Oakland, the heartbeat of a movement and the soul of a Town. A continuous flow of history to present day and an intersection of time, sound and motion. Legends and imagery from the Harlem of the West play together like musicians in a band. The Black Crowned Night Heron carries us through a bird’s-eye-view of 7th Street, as the BART train curves its way through the rails to our neighboring City. This artwork - an honorable series in Shannon and Monocrew's Nature of the City project - remains a permanent tribute as Nature of the Town, immortalizing Oakland’s unique character as it is burned into history through the wood’s surface.
